102 - From Acceptance to Agency w Spencer Megan

Spencer Megan is a teacher mentor, former classroom teacher and burnout survivor who believes that boundaries and an empowered mindset are the keys for living on your terms as a teacher. Born and raised in a town near Detroit MI, she’s a dog lover, frothy coffee fanatic, and creative at heart. Ultimately, Spencer is on a mission to change the teaching world by providing a supportive and safe space for teachers to become self-empowered and take back control of their lives. She says, “I’m able to help teachers in this capacity because long before I started helping others elevate their lives, I was my own best customer and transformed my own.”

In our conversation, Spencer states that her goal is to help teachers find balance and make them feel safe in putting themselves first. The common expectation is that students are always first, which leads to teacher burnout and feeling lost in your own personal life. In this ‘coaching’ role, she sees differently, specifically with regards to transformation – understanding that leading with personal development is of utmost importance.

Spencer learned from personal experience; as a former teacher who absolutely loved her role in the classroom, for a chunk of time she thrived by physically being in a school and being the teacher that had good student-teacher relationships, supported academic growth, and had a well-managed class. There was a joy that came with teaching and helping students grow and learn. However, after feeling burnt out and working deeper into her personal needs and desires, she transformed into this incredible mentor, continuing to help people live better lives – only in a different capacity and from the other end of the education spectrum!
