96 - From Earning It to Owning It w Ashley Fillingim

Ashley Fillingim is a business strategist and attorney who helps entrepreneurs create, grow, and scale. After two decades in a top-tier international law firm—including over 10 years as a litigation partner—representing Fortune 500 clients in high-stakes litigation, Ashley walked out of her corner office and into entrepreneur life. Trading high heels for flip flops and city life for the beach, she began building multiple businesses with her toes in the sand. Now, she empowers entrepreneurs with legal planning and strategy through Sandstar Law, writes and speaks on building a KickAshLife, and (accidentally) owns a wine shop in a small coastal town. She is passionate about her children, travel, the beach, sunsets, and one very large dog.

Our conversation covers so much ground; whether we were talking about being enough and the fears and nervousness that surrounds the question “am I enough?”, or the importance of contracts and the strategy and effort behind creating them, Ashley’s genuine and kind persona shines bright with every word she speaks.

She mentions that one of her goals is to help entrepreneurs be “owners of their business”. In fact, she wants to empower her clients and teach them some of the legal components to business, to the point where they feel empowered to step out on their own as an owner! Ashley reminds us that as entrepreneurs we are business owners, and with some help and guidance, we can take that concept to the next level with full ownership.

Ashley’s motto has become being “happy in the chaos” – with so much happening and changes that are constantly taking place, she emphasizes that this is a choice, and she has made the choice to live and own this life!
